Norwalk looks to roundabouts, restores beach intersection to prior plan

NORWALK, Conn. Roundabouts may be coming to Norwalk and a “confusing” change made quietly by the Department of Transportation, Mobility, and Parking near the beach is being reversed.
The Norwalk Traffic Authority voted Monday to remove yield signs installed at Gregory Boulevard intersection with Fifth Street installed by TMP in November. Mayor Harry Rilling said removing them was a recommendation made by newly hired Director of Transportation, Mobility, and Parking James Travers.
“There’s a yield sign, probably about 15 feet in from Fifth Street on Gregory Boulevard, which is very, very confusing. It almost looks like the traffic is supposed to yield to traffic on Fifth Street, which has a stop sign. I don’t think that’s a proper signage there,” said Rilling. ....

Arrest of two officers, high police earnings addressed by Norwalk Police Commission

NORWALK, Conn.
The Norwalk Police Department has high standards, and that’s why the behavior of two officers was not ignored, Police Commissioner Fran Collier-Clemmons said Monday.
Mayor Harry Rilling and Commissioner Kelly Straniti also addressed the arrest of Officers Michael DiMeglio and Sara Laudano, without mentioning their names, during the Police Commission meeting, while fielding questions from two citizens about police overtime and extra duty pay.
“We were all shocked by the incident involving the officers who subsequently ended up getting arrested and being charged for what they did. We thought this was certainly a disgraceful act on their behalf. And they’re being dealt with in an appropriate way,” Rilling said. ....

NORWALK, Conn.
While Mayor Harry Rilling sought to cool temperatures, two of Norwalk’s three Police Commissioners issued a sharp response to State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff’s statement Monday condemning Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik, made in response to the release of the Norwalk Police’s investigation report into Duff’s allegations.
Tempering her statement by referring to both Senator Duff and Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik as “professional, competent and ethical,” Commissioner Fran Collier Clemmons said in an email: “I have read the document and I am at a loss of understanding for the maligning of Chief Kulhawik by Senator Duff,” Commissioner Kelly Straniti dism ....
