Flinders fatal crash

A man has died after his car struck a tree in Flinders this afternoon.
It is believed the vehicle was travelling on Mornington-Flinders Road when it left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire just before 4pm.
The male driver and only occupant, who is yet to be formally identified, has died at the scene.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and ask anyone who witnessed the incident or with dash cam footage to come forward.

In September 2020, the Shire received $2.15 million towards the Flinders Civic Hall redevelopment through the State Government’s expanded Growing Suburbs Fund. In 2019/20, Council allocated $200,000 to progress the design phase and will match the $2.15 million funding providing a total budget of $4.5M for this exciting development. ....

PTSD link to pandemic fears

Even at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, people around the world became more fearful of what could happen to them or their family.
A new Flinders University study of 1040 online participants from five western countries published in PLOS ONE explores people’s response to the stresses of the escalating pandemic, finding more than 13% of the sample had post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) related symptoms consistent with levels necessary to qualify for a clinical diagnosis.
With ongoing economic and social fallout, and death toll of more than 2 million, the team of psychology researchers warn more needs to be done to cope with the potential short and long-term spike in PTSD cases resulting from the pandemic – as well as related mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, psychosocial functioning, etc. ....

Infringement notices issued at Townsville
Police have issued infringement notices to three men following investigations into an incident at a Flinders Street hotel in Townsville on January 16.
The incident occurred around 12.40am, when police were called to a disturbance in the Townsville Safe Night Precinct.
A 56-year-old man was transported to Townsville University Hospital for treatment and two men, aged 19 and 21, were issued with banning notices.
Following an investigation, all three men have today been issued with public nuisance infringement notices and the 56-year-old man has also been issued with a banning notice.
