Unity Bank of Clinton donates $34,200 to area food pantries


CLINTON – Unity Bank and its employees have donated a record total of $34,200 to 19 food pantries in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The funds were contributed by Unity Bank employees and matched by the bank as part of a special annual holiday community service project that was started more than 10 years ago.
Donations of $1,800 will be presented to a local food bank by each of Unity’s 19 community branches, including Flemington Area Food Pantry from Flemington Branch; Open Cupboard Food Pantry of Clinton from Clinton Branch; Readington Area Starfish from Whitehouse Branch; Washington Community Food Pantry from Unity’s Washington Branch; and many more. ....

The holidays can be difficult for those coping with isolation. And, this year, the fight against the spread of the coronavirus has meant a necessary surge in social separation. For elderly individuals, loneliness can be especially difficult.
At Harrogate, a not-for-profit life plan community in Lakewood, isolation of the residents has been a concern of the staffers this season.
Kelly O’Toole, MSW, director of social services at Harrogate said, “COVID-19 has had such an impact on everyone, especially our seniors. The impact social isolation has on older adults can be detrimental. It not only affects their mental health but their overall well-being. It has been hard for all of our residents at Harrogate to have such a change in their routine both inside and outside of Harrogate. They’ve had to adapt to the ‘new normal’ which hasn’t been easy for the ....

Since the coronavirus gripped New Jersey some nine months ago, nonprofit organizations, social agencies, community and church groups, businesses and individuals have worked nonstop to help those who have been hit hardest financially.
And, these good works show no sign of waning. There are countless efforts to bring food, clothes and, at this time of year, toys to those who are struggling to make ends meet.
