Remember when Ian Botham was set to be “the next James Bond”? Of course you don’t. There was, in 1985, as much chance of Roland the Rat becoming 007 as there was of the vegetable-headed cricketer stepping into the part, but, for a day or two, the tabloids pretended to take the notion seriously.
Botham’s publicist, convinced his client had crossover potential, had transported the Hero of Headingly to LA for meetings with the cigar-chompers. Menahem Golan, busy Israeli producer, apparently said Beefy “had the looks, build and accent to be the next James Bond”. Eon Productions, Bond’s parent firm since 1962, somehow resisted Botham’s blonde mullet and settled for Timothy Dalton instead.

Outlander: Why did Tobias Menzies leave Outlander?


In a devastating moment, Frank was involved in a car crash shortly after and was killed.
Actor Menzies remained in the drama as he also played Captain Jack Randall but he later died in the same series at the
Battle of Culloden at the hands of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
Menzies has made brief returns to the series during flashback moments but hasn't made a comeback full-time.

The Crown star has never given a reason as to why he left the show but it could just be because it was written this way.

Outlander hero Sam Heughan has become one of the most popular candidates for James Bond betting for some time now. The Scottish star made waves with his appearance in the STARZ show and 007 fans have since pointed at him to take over from Craig after No Time To Die is released later this year. Heughan recently appeared in a brand new action film, SAS: Red Notice, where he played a Bond-esque protagonist, Tom Buckingham.

Craig’s journey as James Bond comes to an end on September 30 when No Time To Die is released in cinemas. After five films and 15 years, the British heartthrob will step out of the role, allowing another actor to take on the mantle of the legendary spy. Fellow Brit Holland has been making waves in cinema as Marvel’s Spider-Man for the past four years and the young star has confessed playing Bond would be a “dream come true”.

The two actors are also joined by The Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper and Andy Serkis. 
Heughan is best known for playing the masculine warrior in STARZ’ Outlander, but his work in SAS: Red Notice shows he can handle the modern action sequences that are required of 007.
The 40-year-old took on the ferocious villain and ex-Navy SEAL Jimmy Dalton in Bloodshot opposite Vin Diesel.
By tackling more action-packed roles, Heughan is becoming an attractive prospect for the upcoming Bond reboot.

Speaking about his love for the franchise, Grylls told The Sun on Sunday: “I grew up loving Bond films.
“It was such a landmark moment when a Bond film came out and you’d go to the cinema.”
While Grylls has turned the role down, he is uniquely similar to the fictional character.
Grylls went to the esteemed Eton College, just like Bond did.
What’s more, he also served in the SAS, which proves he has the skills to take on a plethora of bad guys like the legendary spy.

UK bookies Ladbrokes told Express Online: "Punters are hooked on Rege-Jean Page with odds at 5/1".
This puts him ahead of Idris Elba and Sam Heughan on 6/1, and poised just behind Tom Hardy and James Norton, who share the lead on 2/1.

This odd occurrence for Bond has now been detailed by the Reddit user, who theorises: “Well, seeing as how, to my knowledge, martinis are usually stirred, it doesn’t make sense to specify that a martini is stirred - that’s how it’s usually supposed to be in the first place.
“It only makes sense to specify the drink as ‘shaken, not stirred’. Thus, normal people would almost never say the phrase ‘stirred, not shaken’ because that’s the default for martinis.
“Thus, I propose that when Bond says it, or when someone says it to Bond, it’s a code which lets the other know that they both work for MI6.”
