Two drug trafficking suspects arrested by India had links with Kanjipani, Madhush and Angoa Lokka

The Hindu newspaper has reported many details about the two Sri Lankans who were recently arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau of India with 100 kilos of heroin.
Following a failed attempt to eliminate a Sri Lankan drug enforcement inspector in May 2017, M.M.M. Nawas and Mohamed Afnas has now been arrested by the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for alleged role in an international drug trafficking racket. They entered India through the Rameswaram coast.
The two Sri Lankans eventually took refuge in the outskirts of Chennai. “Nawas is wanted for the attempted murder of the Sri Lankan inspector, Neomal Rangajeewa, who was seriously injured in the attack,”. ....

Ocean Doctor David E. Guggenheim will present “Lessons from the Deep: What the Oceans Are Telling Us and Why it Matters” on Jan. 29.
The 17th annual “Ding” Darling Friday Lecture Series is evolving with the times and persisting distance protocols by moving to a larger venue, The Community House on Sanibel. The free lectures will occur on five select days with one 10 a.m. lecture per day.
“The uncertainties of COVID-19 challenged us to experiment with a new lecture series format so we could accommodate high-quality lecturers but still abide by new distancing guidelines,” Ann-Marie Wildman, lecture series organizer and manager of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s Nature Store, said. “We would be very limited on how many we could seat at our usual venue in the “Ding” Darling Visitor & Education Center auditorium, but The ....

Most Alaskans weren’t paying attention to the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) until last spring, when this entity became one of the first pandemic profiteers, conducting a shady financial transfer of $35 million of state funds to the Ambler road project. Dozens of Alaskans called in to the virtual meeting in good faith, asking instead for direct support for businesses struggling in the pandemic. Regardless, AIDEA’s board of directors voted unanimously to make the transfer and continues to celebrate its involvement in the Ambler road project, despite local opposition and questions surrounding its economic and social impacts. Last week, AIDEA drew increased attention by bidding on Arctic National Wildlife Refuge leases, one of only three entities to do so.
