Mercy Health joins health equity pledge
LIMA Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center on Thursday joined with 22 health systems in the Catholic Health Association (CHA) to prioritize equity in its COVID-19 response and confront systemic racism in health care.
The initiative, Confronting Racism by Achieving Health Equity, pledges to advocate for equitable distribution and access to COVID-19 testing, vaccines and new treatments, as well as reevaluate the way participating health care systems operate so that recruitment, hiring, promotion and retention standards are more equitable.
The pledge also calls on participating health networks to delivery culturally competent health care and improve their relationships with minority communities, in part by opposing public policies that perpetuate iniquities. ....

Catholic health systems around the U.S. including giants like CommonSpirit​​​​​​​ and Ascension committed to address systemic racism by taking concrete steps to reduce health disparities, it was announced Thursday.
More than 20 health system members of the Catholic Health Association (CHA) joined the Confronting Racism by Achieving Health Equity commitment so far, officials said. Those health systems employ nearly half a million people across 46 states and the District of Columbia and care for almost 4 million patients annually, officials said. ....

 The Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) today launched a membership-driven initiative to confront racism by achieving health equity.  
Twenty-three of the nation s largest Catholic health care systems have already pledged their commitment to confronting systemic racism by prioritizing equity in response to COVID-19; enacting change across their own health care systems by examining and changing hiring, promotion and retention practices to ensure diversity and inclusion; forming stronger partnerships with communities of color to improve health outcomes; and leveraging their united and powerful voice to advocate for policy changes that address the root causes of racism and social injustice. ....
