Ellesmere Port firefighter to cycle 870 miles in five days

AN Ellesmere Port firefighter is getting in gear for the biggest challenge of his life after vowing to cycle from Land’s End to John o’ Groats in just five days.
Gareth Johns, of Powey Lane Fire Station in Cheshire, is taking on the 870-mile challenge to raise funds and awareness for Mind, the mental health charity.
The 38-year-old from Great Sutton will be riding alongside his friend Mike Barrett, a former soldier.
They will set off from the most southern point of England on Sunday, July 18, and aim to reach the most northern point of Scotland on Thursday, July 22. ....

(MENAFN - The Conversation) Life during the pandemic has been difficult for most of us. But there s no doubt some occupational groups have had a particularly tough time, especially NHS workers.
Many NHS staff have dealt with inordinate numbers of critically ill patients. Some have been trying to provide care in a far from ideal situation, knowing that doing so will lead to poor outcomes for their patients. This is having an impact on their mental health.
My recent study of staff working in critical care during the pandemic showed they report more than twice the rate of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) found in military veterans who ve recently experienced combat. ....
