As polling officials across Tamil Nadu prepared for the massive single-day assembly election in the state, a unique companion came to their aid in Erode and Dharmapuri.
In Erode’s Anthiyur Assembly constituency at Kathirimalai village, donkeys were used to carry EVMs and other poll materials. The locals in the region came out to help election officials in carrying the EVMs, VVPATs and other poll materials to the polling booth. ....

Polling passed off peacefully in Erode district, which saw 72.82% of voters across eight Assembly constituencies exercising their franchise on Tuesday.
The day started with a mock polling held from 5.30 a.m. to 6.30 a.m. at all the 2,741 polling stations, including 38 booths in hill areas without mobile connectivity. For years, these villages have remained inaccessible to vehicles, and can be reached only on foot. As in the past, donkeys on Monday began to trek up to help in the election process.

With Kathirimalai village in Anthiyur Assembly constituency inaccessible to reach by vehicle, election officials with the help of two donkeys and local people trekked the nine km rough jungle terrain ferrying electronic voting machines (EVMs), voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPATs) and other poll materials to reach the village in Erode district by Monday evening. Polling will take place on Tuesday.
