Rhode Island s plan to vaccinate teachers could come as soon as Tuesday.
Newly sworn-in Gov. Daniel McKee is holding a press conference at 11:30 a.m. to talk about the state s initiative to vaccinate teachers, school staff and childcare workers. He ll be joined at St. Anthony s Parish Center in Pawtucket by state and local health and education officials, including Health Director Nicole Alexander-Scott.
Rhode Island s vaccination plan does not currently take one s profession into account. Teachers under the age of 65 can only make vaccination appointments at CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, which at the direction of President Biden are able to vaccinate teachers. ....

Joined by colleagues from across government, Governor Dan McKee today announced that the state of Rhode Island is partnering with cities and towns on an ambitious plan to get first doses of COVID-19 vaccine to all K-12 teachers, school staff, and child care workers by the end of the month.
“Getting our teachers, school staff, and child care workers vaccinated is one of the best things we can do right now to support students, families, schools, and our economy,” said Governor McKee. “Here in Rhode Island, we’ve heard President Biden’s directive, and his goal is our goal. Child care and in-person learning are essential services, and we should treat them that way. I want to thank the leadership of our cities and towns for stepping up to help us meet this moment and get these workers vaccinated quickly, efficiently, and safely.” ....

Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee on Tuesday announced what he called an ambitious plan to have first doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered to all kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, school staff, and child care workers by the end of the month.
McKee said the shots will be given at the 30 city-and-town operated clinics throughout Rhode Island. Educators and child care workers will be vaccinated based on the community where they work, not where they live.
Many will start getting their shots on Friday and Saturday. Cities and towns will work with schools and child care centers to coordinate appointments. The process will be different in Providence because of its size. ....

Pawtucket schedules vaccinations for residents 75 and older

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Pawtucket is now making appointments for city residents 75 and older for the coronavirus vaccine, city officials said Tuesday.
Mayor Donald Grebien said that starting Feb. 20, the clinics will alternate between St. Anthony Parish Center and Jenks Middle School, WPRI-TV reported.
The state Department of Health has allocated 480 vaccines per clinic, according to Grebien. Each clinic is open by appointment only.
Information is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole. Residents can also call the city’s COVID-19 hotline at 855-843-7620.
“We ask that everyone awaiting a vaccine remain patient and continue to do the right things like wearing a mask, washing their hands, and practicing social distancing,” Grebien said. ....
