Carroll County NAMI Invites Public To Mental Health Documentary Showing This Weekend At CHS

A half-dozen local organizations have partnered to bring an emotional documentary regarding mental health and suicide prevention to Carroll this coming weekend. Terry Plocher, pastor at First United Methodist Church of Carroll and a part of the Carroll County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter, says the feature-length film highlights a teenager’s mission to help others following her own suicide attempt.
The screening begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2 at the Carroll High School auditorium with no charge to attend. Carroll County received NAMI accreditation near the end of 2020, and this film is the latest in their effort to improve the public’s understanding of mental health. The locally-led effort has hosted support groups, informational sessions and more. Plocher says this is just their latest attempt to get people more comfortable talking about a difficult subject. ....

Three St. Anthony Nurses Receive 100 Great Iowa Nurses Awards

Three Registered Nurses from St. Anthony Regional Hospital have been selected as recipients of the 2021 100 Great Iowa Nurses award. “We are honored to have three of our nurses as part of the 100 nurses chosen statewide,” says President and CEO, Ed Smith. “It is a great testament to the quality of care we provide and the award highlights the tremendous contributions they have made through the nursing profession benefitting our friends and neighbors right here in central Iowa.” Kari Hammer is originally from Alexandria, S.D. and graduated from the Southeast Technical Institute with a degree in surgical technology. She began as a surgical tech in 1994, but continued her education, obtaining a nursing degree and certificate in legal nurse consulting from Kansas State University. Coon Rapids Motorcyclist Injured In Saturday Accident

A Coon Rapids man suffered suspected serious injuries in an accident Saturday evening. The Coon Rapids Police Department reports that 52-year-old Wallace John Harland Block of Ayrshire was traveling westbound on State Street in a 2011 Dodge Nitro at approximately 6:06 p.m. He had stopped at the yield sign at the intersection with 6
th Avenue while 56-year-old Jerry Shane Hager was southbound on 6
th Avenue on a 2009 Harley Davidson. Block told authorities he did not see the approaching motorcycle and entered the intersection. A passenger in the vehicle did see Hager and yelled for the driver to stop, which he did, but he was halfway into the intersection. Hager applied his brakes to avoid a collision but applied too much front brake, causing him to lose traction and tip the motorcycle, which skidded about 30 feet before coming to rest. Hager was thrown into the grass near the yield sign at the southwest corner of the intersection. Hager was transported to St. Anthony Regio ....

St. Anthony Announces Partnership To Expand Urology Care

St. Anthony Regional Hospital announced today (Monday) the beginning of a partnership with Siouxland Urology Associates P.C. to begin providing urology services at their campus in Carroll. Dr. Adam Althaus from the Siouxland-based group of specialists will begin seeing patients at the St. Anthony Clinic on May 10
th. Dr. Althaus is trained in a variety of fields, including: general urology, robotic surgeries, female incontinence and prolapse surgery, voiding dysfunction, men’s health, kidney stone disease and pediatric urology. However, his chief area of interest is in genitourinary malignancies, such as kidney, bladder and prostate cancer.
