West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah announced Tuesday it will receive a $15 million gift from a billionaire philanthropist, with college leadership saying the historic donation has the potential to be a “generational game-changer.”
WKCTC President Anton Reece said he first learned the week of Nov. 29 that Billionaire MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, was making the donation through the college’s foundation, and he initially thought the substantial gift was a hoax. He said WKCTC was picked for the donation among the more than 7,000 organizations considered by Scott.
“For West Kentucky Community Technical College to be in that net, that is just indescribable,” Reece said. “We have transformative opportunities, and starting with this gift is the next chapter to take things up to the quintessential level.” ....

PADUCAHÂ â West Kentucky Community and Technical College has received a $15 million donation from novelist, billionaire and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.Â
WKCTC says Scott made the historic donation to the college s foundation.Â WKCTC President Anton Reece announced the donation amount during the news conference at 3:30 p.m. TuesdayÂ in the Student Center in the Clemens Fine Arts Building.
Scott, who is the 18th richest person in the world according to Bloomberg Wealth, has been making donations at an unprecedented pace this year. Her donations this year are nearing $6 billion, Bloomberg Wealth reports, with beneficiaries including more than 30 colleges and universities, more than 40 food banks and dozens local-level affiliates of Goodwill Industries International. More than $4 billion of that total was donated in just the past four months.Â ....
