Sister Philomena Agudo, FMM – North Smithfield
Sr. Philomena Agudo, FMM, passed away on January 2, 2021, at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield.
Born in Davao, the Philippines in 1925 to Isidoro and Mercedes Agudo, the oldest of six children, the family had many experiences especially during the occupation in the Second World War.
She entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in 1949 making Final Vows in 1955. Well prepared for teaching, Sr.Philomena had earned Teacher Certification, as well as a BA and MA in Education. She taught in O.L. of Loreto Academy in Legarda, Manila, did catechetical work in public schools and during her spare time, visited prisoners in the National Penitentiary. She was sent to Cebu City for Stella Maris School in Cebu. ....

2020: The year that was -- and wasn't


 
 
There is, after all, a lot that didn t happen as a result of the pandemic, and just as much we d like to forget. Festivals and traditions that were canceled. People we didn t see, or saw less of – far less. Friends and loved ones who died.
 
For many of us, the pandemic feels like we were shipwrecked and marooned on an island – only without the benefit of mangos and pretty birds. We re waiting for the vaccine ship to arrive – we hear it s in the neighborhood – but even after it comes, we re still unsure what the world will be like when we make it back to the mainland. ....

NSHS senior creates display for COVID-19 patients

NORTH SMITHFIELD – The holidays will look a little brighter at St. Antoine Residence thanks to the efforts of one North Smithfield High School student.
Noah Gremour created a festive Christmas display on the grounds of the local nursing home for his senior project. With the help of volunteers and staff, he set up the decorations outside the wing dedicated for COVID-19 patients because that’s where “they needed it most.” ....

Mémères and Pépères get a special delivery
Landen Connelly, 3, Zachary Reifler, 5, and Griffin Luttge, 4, hold up some of the cards they delivered to St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield on Dec. 4. The boys made 100 cards and ornaments for St. Antoine’s and Bayberry Commons in Burrillville to bring smiles to the residents.
NORTH SMITHFIELD – Three little boys from Burrillville had a special delivery for two local nursing homes earlier this month.
Landen Connelly, 3, Griffin Luttge, 4, and Zachary Reifler, 5, delivered batches of handmade cards to St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield and Bayberry Commons in Burrillville on Friday, Dec. 4. The boys made 50 cards for each home and handed them off to staff at the front door. ....
