The Government spent $122,611 on 122 emergency housing grants in Whanganui during the final quarter of 2020.
That compares to the final quarter of 2017 when there were 16 emergency housing grants paid at a
cost of $4939, according to figures obtained by the Whanganui Chronicle.
But while in Whanganui this week Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the spend was simply indicative of the government ensuring people had a roof over their head, even if it was a motel. ....

War Memorial hosts 4000 people in traditional Anzac Day National Service

The Australian War Memorial hosted 4000 people for the Anzac Day National Service today, and while the traditional veterans’ parade could not go ahead, 200 people still participated in the banner parade.

Numbers were down for the traditional Anzac Day ceremony in Canberra today commemorating 106 years since Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on Anzac Cove.

A number of the veterans sat on the perimeter of the service paying their respects from a distance, while Canberra citizens as well, lined Anzac Parade away from the ticketed event to view the famous service.

Hamiltonians Set To Welcome Back Anzac Day

After last year’s cancellation due to COVID-19,
Hamilton City Council and Hamilton Returned Services
Association (RSA) are expecting Hamiltonians to warmly
welcome back their Anzac Day services this Sunday.
The
city’s Anzac Day parades and services return on 25 April
after not going ahead in 2020 – the first cancellation
since services began in Hamilton in 1916.

Mayor Paula Southgate is pleased and relieved that
residents, in COVID-19 lockdown last Anzac Day, can once
again honour the huge sacrifices of New Zealand’s service
personnel.
