This past weekend marked the return of in-person Memorial Day observances in Leominster since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic 15 months ago.
The parade from Evergreen Cemetery to Carter Park was canceled because of COVID restrictions but everything else from last weekend’s remembrances looked the same as previous years.
Following Friday night’s White Cross Twilight Ceremony at the Leominster Veterans’ Memorial Center, American flags were placed on veterans’ graves Saturday morning. Around 5,200 flags were placed at Evergreen, St. Leo’s and St. Cecilia’s Cemeteries, according to Veterans’ Services Director Richard Voutour.
The 155th Day of Decoration on Monday included ceremonies at Monument Square, St. Leo’s Cemetery, St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Johnny Ro Memorial Park, the GAR Lot at Evergreen Cemetery, and the Memorial Circle at Carter Park. ....
