Tri-Valley youth led a virtual community forum last week to discuss police presence on local school campuses and the future role of school resource officers (SROs).
The evening conversation on July 22 was organized by members of Genesis of the Tri-Valley, a community group focused on impacting structural racism through issue-based campaigns. They aim to end the school-to-prison pipeline, put a stop to youth incarceration completely and find alternate methods for when a student is having a mental health crisis.

Amador Valley High School broke ground Wednesday on construction for a new shade structure that will provide students some much-needed relief from the Tri-Valley heat.
Principal Josh Butterfield thanked the community for their support at the groundbreaking ceremony at the school, which was also attended by Pleasanton Unified School District trustees, cabinet members and former trustee Valerie Arkin, a current City Council member. ....

Nashville Artists to Headline Livermore Concert for ALS

Nashville recording artists James Otto and Jason Blaine will headline a âCountry Fest to Cure ALSâ concert at the Wente Vineyards in Livermore on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The concert is one of three to be presented across Northern California this summer by the ALS Cure Project to raise money for research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and fatal neurological disorder, also known as Lou Gehrigâs Disease for the former New York Yankee.
The ALS Cure Project was founded in 2019 by Mike Piscotty, an information technology project manager at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and his son, Stephen, a graduate of Amador Valley High School and now an outfielder with the Oakland Aâs, in honor of wife and mother, Gretchen, who died of ALS three years ago. ....
