BASF awards $32,000 in scholarships to local high school students Staff Report BASF in Geismar awarded scholarships to 11 high school seniors in Louisiana, totaling $32,000, through the company’s local and corporate scholarship programs. Eight scholarship recipients from high schools in Ascension Parish plan to pursue STEM-related degrees. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to apply toward college tuition. “These scholarships are part of BASF’s continued commitment to supporting a future of strong, diverse local talent by fostering an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and related careers,” said Jerry Lebold, Senior Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Geismar site. “Each of these students has demonstrated exceptional academic performance to successfully pursue a university degree in a STEM field.” ....
Staff Report Ascension Credit Union announced its Donaldsonville location, which will be at 2256 Hwy. 70. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the location with contractors, Stuart & Company, architects, RHH Architects, board members, supervisory committee members, Donaldsonville Area Chamber of Commerce members, the mayor of Donaldsonville, and several dignitaries. Ascension Credit Union’s new location is scheduled to open by December 2021. Also, Ascension Credit Union recently awarded seven $1,000 scholarships to seniors from each Ascension Parish High School. Students were awarded from East Ascension High School, Dutchtown High School, Ascension Catholic High School, Ascension Christian High School, St. Amant High School, Donaldsonville High School, and Early College Option at River Parishes Community College. ....
Staff Report Ascension Parish seniors celebrated the end of the school year as they head into graduation festivities. East Ascension High School seniors continued the longtime tradition of jumping into the pond across from the school’s campus along East Worthey Street in Gonzales. St. Amant High School seniors also had a fun time splashing around campus, as members of the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department joined them with fire trucks. Next, the students look forward to their graduation ceremonies. Parish public school graduation ceremonies are: May 12 for Dutchtown High School, May 13 for St. Amant High School, and May 14 for both Donaldsonville High School and East Ascension High School. ....
Staff Report Ascension Parish Public Schools announced the school and district winners of its Support Personnel of the Year for 2020-21: Kim Harvey from Lakeside Primary is the Primary School Support Person of the Year, Marcus Jones from Dutchtown Middle is the Middle School Support Person of the Year, and Alison Clingfost from Dutchtown High is the High School Support Person of the Year. All support personnel were selected by their respective school peers and were recognized at this week s Ascension Parish School Board Meeting.
