AUGUSTA, Ga. (Reuters) - Justin Rose was clinging to a one-shot lead over Masters rookie Will Zalatoris after six holes of his third round when play at Augusta National was suspended and the course evacuated due to approaching inclement weather.
Rose, playing in the final group, made a birdie-birdie start to build a three-shot cushion but then made consecutive bogeys from the par-three fourth that left him where he started the day, one shot clear of the field at seven under on the week.
The 40-year-old Englishman, bidding to become the first wire-to-wire Masters winner since Jordan Spieth in 2015, steadied the ship with a par at the par-three sixth and was looking at a 25-foot birdie putt at the par-four seventh when the horn sounded. ....

Rory McIlroy shot another disappointing round at the Masters at Augusta National and missed the cut by three shots, as the Holywood native signed for 74 to end on six-over-par.
The four-time major winner was always in a race to make the cut, starting on four over par following his opening round 76 and made things even harder for himself with bogeys on the fifth and seventh holes to turn on two over for the day.
That left McIlroy three shots outside the projected cut mark of three over, but worse was to follow for the former world number one, as he made double bogey on the tenth hole to effectively end his participation at the year s opening major. ....

AUGUSTA: Justin Rose humbled a firm and fast Augusta National layout that wreaked havoc upon many of the world’s top golfers, seizing a four-stroke lead on Thursday at the 85th Masters.
Rose, the 2013 US Open champion, birdied five of the last seven holes in shooting a seven-under par 65, his career-low score by two strokes in 59 Masters rounds.
The 40-year-old Englishman defied a lightning-fast layout that baffled his rivals by going nine-under over the last 11 holes, the best such Masters closing run by any golfer since 2004. ....

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout fired an impressive opening two-under par 70 in the first round of the Masters, at Augusta, on Thursday.
For much of the round Bezuidenhout was one behind the lead of three-under held by American Brian Harman and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama who carded 69s. Late in the day,
The 26-year-old Bezuidenhout’s total was good enough for a share of fourth, and leaves the SA player perfectly placed. In fact, when last year’s edition of The Masters was held in November Bezuidenhout opened with a seven-under 65 to share the lead. He would go on to end in a share of 38th. ....
