On 6 May, the government approved the investment protection action plan for 2021-2030 proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The action plan is a strategy document setting out the objectives and international actions in the field of investment protection for the next ten years. The action plan is based on one of the main objectives of Estonia’s Foreign Policy Strategy 2030, strengthening foreign trade policy, and an objective of the long-term strategy Estonia 2035 – a strong, innovative and responsible economy.

Today 7 May, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets met with the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov.
At the meeting, Foreign Minister Liimets affirmed Estonia’s strong support for European Union enlargement. “European Union enlargement is a crucial geostrategic investment both in the security and prosperity of Europe. North Macedonia is committed to this purpose and worked hard at implementing reforms. Estonia supports launching accession negotiations between North Macedonia and holding the first Intergovernmental Conference at the earliest opportunity.”

Today 7 May, Estonia is organising an informal virtual meeting at the UN Security Council that focuses on the protection of children in armed conflict during the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting is chaired by Estonian Ambassador to the UN Sven Jürgenson.
Ambassador Sven Jürgenson said the meeting aims at assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on violations against children and their monitoring in various conflicts worldwide. “The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges of those who have already been put in a vulnerable position by conflict. These include, above all, children. For Estonia, an elected member of the UN Security Council, the protection of children is of utmost importance, Jürgenson said. ....

Today 6 May, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Estonia Alexander Petrov to protest and present a note on the violation of Estonian airspace yesterday. Estonia considers this a very regrettable and serious incident, and repeated series of violations of this kind are completely unacceptable.
