MONROVIA – Police in Monrovia are investigating two high school students of the Cy-Ed Christian School of Excellence for the murder of 16-year-old school mate on campus with a 9mm pistol.
The incident occurred during the early morning hours on Tuesday.
The victim was the daughter of Dr. Philip Ireland, head of Internal Medicine at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center.
Police informed journalists that they have in their custody the two students, Jovanus Oliver Turay, 16yrs and a person of interest, Matthew Gonkerwon, who are persons of interest to the police. ....

President Weah did not hide his shock and disbelief at what he saw when he visited some public schools around Monrovia recently. He openly chided Education Minister Ansu Sonii fpr being responsible for the abjectly poor conditions under which students are learning.
The President observed broken desks and armchairs, leaky school roofs and a host of other problems for which he must have felt convinced, Education Minister should be held responsible. Analysts say the President’s remarks contained veiled threats of dismissals, dismissals which the public believed would have followed almost immediately.
But contrary to such public perceptions and expectations, Education Minister Ansu Sonii remains steadfast in his position and there appears to be little chances that such threats would be actualized anytime soon. ....

MOE Disburses US$1M Stimulus Honorarium to Private School Teachers


Says over 4,395 persons earmarked to benefit
The Government through the Ministry of Education (MOE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has begun the disbursement of US$1 million Stimulus honorarium to private-school teachers in Liberia.
The disbursement, which started on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, is in fulfillment of recent pronouncement made by President George Manneh Weah in recognizing the financial difficulties private school teachers were experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that intensified in the country earlier this year.
The honorarium, which according to the MOE, is also being paid to legitimate private-school teachers as the Government of Liberia’s appreciation of their selfless and invaluable contribution in molding the minds of the upcoming generation during the peak of COVID-19. ....
