Emergency funding for flood-hit businesses from Welsh Government

BUSINESSES in Wales affected by recent devastating floods will be able to access up to £2,500 of emergency Welsh Government funding.
The Business Flood Relief Grant opens to applications today, with firms affected by flooding able to claim support to help them stabilise their operations.
The funding follows damage and disruption caused by Storm Bella in December last year and Storm Christoph in January.
It will be administered by Business Wales and will support firms with the costs of recovery and repair, and help them to meet the cost of renting alternative space and retaining staff.
Economy, Transport and North Wales Minister Ken Skates said: “Sadly we know around 45 Welsh businesses were affected by recent flooding. This means that on top of all the wider challenges they are facing at the moment these businesses are also having to cope with damaged property, stock and equipment while navigating often complex insurance claims. ....

Wales £39m commercial fishing sector will be devastated by changes under the Brexit trade deal, fishermen have warned.
New rules to replace the EU Common Fisheries Policy mean 76 French and Belgian trawlers can fish within six miles of the Welsh coast until 2026.
It means many Welsh fishermen may struggle to survive, the Welsh Fishermen s Association said.
The UK government said it protected fishermen s rights.
But those working in Wales said they were already struggling with export red tape.
Barry Thomas, who voted for Brexit, said Prime Minister Boris Johnson bottled the deal at the last minute , after promising to keep foreign trawlers outside the UK s 12-mile limit. ....

LETTER – Farmers will be impacted by waterways pollution bill

Last week’s announcement by Welsh Government that they were to implement new controls to reduce pollution in Wales probably passed most people by: most having enough on their plates simply surviving the current pandemic.
If they gave any thought to it at all they could assume that anything being done to reduce the pollution of our waterways would be a good thing. Think again.
These new measures were aimed specifically at agriculture and have sent shockwaves through the industry imposing costs that many will find unaffordable.
Despite many promises to the contrary that this would not happen until the Covid-19 crisis had abated, Environment and Rural affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths has introduced a raft of regulations that makes the whole of Wales a Nitrogen Vulnerable Zone (NVZ), restricting farmers ability to spread the manure that their livestock produce, and requiring them to have the capacity to store for a minimum of five months. ....
