New Hampshire Democrats pressure Sununu over veterans home

(The Center Square) – Democrats are turning up the pressure on Republican Gov. Chris Sununu over his administration s handling of a COVID-19 outbreak at a veterans home that sickened nearly 200 and killed 37 elderly residents.
In a letter to Sununu’s office, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley rips the governor s sham
report on the outbreak and requests documents related to the state’s response to the outbreak at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton and a report that cleared officials at the long-term care facility of wrongdoing.
Despite calls from New Hampshire veterans and civic leaders, you have failed to produce an independent report to examine what caused this outbreak, what could have prevented it, and what could have been done to protect our veterans during the outbreak, Buckley wrote in the March 25 letter. ....

Forsyth County could get $3 million from General Assembly for Belews Lake Park

A new Forsyth County park planned for the shores of Belews Lake is about as close to Reidsville or Greensboro as it is to Winston-Salem.
As a result, lawmakers from around the Triad are signing on to a bill that would appropriate $3 million from the state’s Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to further the development of the park.
The bill was filed March 29 by N.C. Rep. Donny Lambeth, R-Forsyth, but has drawn support from other lawmakers representing Stokes, Surry, Rockingham and Guilford counties, and even one from Durham County.
“While the property is in Forsyth County, it is really a regional opportunity for that part of the state,” Lambeth said, explaining the regional support the bill has drawn. ....

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger: Georgia's controversial election reform bill provides 'balance between accessibility with security'

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger defended the state s controversial new election reforms this past week by arguing they made voting both more secure and more accessible.
Raffensperger discussed the reforms during a telephone interview with the Daily Post, answering questions about how provisions of Senate Bill 202 would work and how some of those provisions might impact Gwinnett County voters. Proponents of the bill have argued it will make elections more fair and secure while opponents have argued some of its provisions will lead to suppression of voters, particularly in minority communities.
I would say it provides the proper balance between accessibility with security, Raffensperger said. ....
