30 year old track patroller fatally injured near surbiton and RAIB publish report on fatal accident to vision impaired passenger at Eden Park station.
There was a euphoria about the pandemic vaccinations which has affected us all until I heard about the fatal accident to a young man working as a track patroller near Surbiton on February 9th.
Equally distressing is the saga that led to the accidental death of a vision impaired intended traveller who fell onto the track at Eden Park Station over a year ago on February 26th 2020 as his train entered the station. ....

Disabled people, carers and charities are being asked to contribute to a National Strategy for Disabled People
A survey seeking the views of disabled people, carers, charities and stakeholders on the content of a National Strategy for Disabled People has been launched.
The survey is based on what disability organisations have said needs addressing and covers many aspects of life, from employment opportunities to making sure public services are accessible to all. The survey also provides a place for disabled people to share their experiences of discrimination and abuse, signposting any victims to further support.
Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson said: “Understanding people’s real experiences of living with a disability and their views on what needs to change are essential if we are to truly change the landscape for disabled people. ....

Thousands are risking blindness because they don't use their eye drops properly, warn experts


Failure to use eye drops correctly is putting hundreds of thousands of Britons at risk of blindness, experts have warned. The concern follows recent reports that only half of the 480,000 sufferers of glaucoma – the most common eye condition in the UK – are given clear instructions for using their medication.
It is essential to apply pressure to the inner corner of the eye, or the tear duct, when squirting in the liquid to stop the medication draining out, rendering it ineffective.
But experts say specialists are failing to relay this information, causing patients to lose their sight needlessly.
‘It is doctors’ responsibility to tell patients how to use the medication they prescribe, not just assume they know how to use it because most don’t,’ says Dr Louise Gow, an eye health specialist at the Royal National Institute for Blind People.   ....
