Vandals who targeted the two Coghill footbridges at Wick s riverside have been branded mindless idiots .
Allan Farquhar, vice-chairperson of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council, counted at least a dozen mesh panels that he said had either been kicked or struck with a heavy object.
A handrail was also broken, and that too may have been deliberate.
Mt Farquhar warned that further damage to the popular crossings could ultimately lead to them being closed to the public. ....

Community councillors hope that a Wick historic monument refurbishment project can be given a fresh start.
The Soldiersâ Tower at the North Head remains surrounded by fencing, with keep out signs attached, after plans to restore the structure were delayed.
It was constructed in 1909 in honour of soldiers from Caithness who had served their country in conflicts including Trafalgar, Waterloo and the Peninsular and Boer wars. ....

Dog-fouling is a huge problem across the county , Wick community councillors have been told.
The challenges involved in identifying inconsiderate owners were outlined by Highland Council s assistant community works officer Jodie Wilson, whose role includes the duties of dog warden for the Caithness area.
She said a lack of responsibility was a bigger factor than any shortage of poo bins.
Miss Wilson was invited to attend the March meeting of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council â held by Zoom on Monday night â in response to recent dog-fouling concerns. At the February meeting, chairperson Joanna Coghill had claimed Wick s pavements were absolutely filthy and declared: âThere is not one ....

The number of calls to the police in Caithness from people experiencing mental health problems has gone through the roof over the course of the pandemic, it has emerged.
Sergeant Brian Hamilton of Police Scotland told Wick community councillors: It would shock you, some of the stuff we are dealing with just now.
