Less than 3 month after dismantling its unutilised jumbo facility at Mahalaxmi Race Course, BMC wants to build its again
MUMBAI: The state government is set to construct four jumbo Covid centres in the city. “We expect the four jumbo centres to be ready by mid-May or early June. We have already increased the capacity of the six existing jumbo centres by adding regular and ICU beds,” said Sanjeev Jaiswal, BMC additional civic chief (city).
Jaiswal further said the Kanjurmarg plot will have 2,000 beds and 200 ICU beds. “The BMC will be the coordinating agency. This will be to prepare for a third wave.” ....

The doubling rate has come down to 249 days. However, on a positive note, over 800 people were also discharged in a single day. In another development. The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), which conducts horse races in Mumbai and Pune, has begun
taking online bets on horse races on Paytm First Games. Both the Club and Paytm First Games have announced the development. Since January 10, residents of Maharashtra have been able to place bets on races on the Paytm First Games app.
The Club got permission from the Maharashtra government to conduct online betting on horse races in Mumbai and Pune on January 7. Zavaray Poonawalla, chairman of RWITC said it was a historical achievement for the club, and said he believes that online betting is the “lifeline for horse racing”. The Hindu first reported this on January 8. On the Paytm First Games app, only residents of Maharashtra can place bets on RWITC races, in compliance with state laws. ....

Pune: Cops to probe role of turf club officials in case of online betting in horse races
During multiple raids at different locations in the city, on December 11 police arrested 31 people, including some bookies and their accomplices, for alleged illegal online betting on horse races at Pune.

Police said betting stalls were allowed inside the racecourse. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no stalls were allowed in the premises at the turf club and it was found that the accused were betting on the races shown on online portals, police added. (Representational)
