Indonesian envoy briefs students on scholarships

LAHORE : Indonesian Ambassador in Pakistan Adam Mulawarman Tugio on Wednesday visited Government College University Lahore and briefed the students about different scholarships available in Indonesia for Pakistani students. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi and senior faculty members welcomed the development for the benefit of the students and faculty of GCU.
Adam Mulawarman Tugio said different Indonesian universities had been considered among the 200 best universities of the world. “Pakistan and Indonesia are brotherly Islamic countries and there are vast opportunities for cooperation between the two in various fields,” he added.
He pledged to act as a bridge between GCU and different reputed universities of Indonesia for academic and research collaboration. ....

GCU board recommends hiring of 18 lecturers

LAHORE : The 80th Selection Board of Government College University Lahore has recommended the appointment of 18 lecturers in seven departments besides promotions of 13 faculty and staff members of the university.
The GCU Selection Board recommended the appointment of lecturers in Chemistry, Microbiology, Botany, Economics, Geography, Computer Science, English Literature and Sociology. The Selection Board also interviewed candidates for the post of Lecturer in Geography but didn’t find any suitable candidate to recommend for appointment. The Selection Board also recommended the promotion of seven faculty members on the tenure track system (TTS), and promotion cases as Deputy Registrar, Senior Librarian, System Analyst and Deputy Controller of Examination are recommended. Rs3.5m donated for mosque on GCU premises

LAHORE : Government College University Lahore faculty and other staff on Friday initially donated Rs3.5 million as Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi opened fundraising for the construction of a grand mosque on the main campus.
According to a press release, the fundraising campaign was started during the weekly Durs-e-Quran session where the university staff and faculty unanimously decided to construct the mosque but also made initial donations for the mosque.
The VC made the first donation for the mosque and then others.
The VC said a small gathering of faculty and staff members present in the auditorium donated Rs3.5 million. He said now the fundraising campaign was being opened to all students, faculty and staff of the university. ....
