Biodiesel Study on Health Benefits and Farmers Poll on GGE Reduction - AG INFORMATION NETWORK OF THE WEST

Biodiesel Study on Health Benefits and Farmers Poll on GGE Reduction
Monday May 3rd, 2021
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.
As the California harvest season gains momentum, transportation companies worry there may not be enough truck drivers to move crops to market.
People in the trucking and food businesses report they’re already short of drivers to haul carrots and onions from Southern California fields.
They say the shortages could worsen as harvests move north. Firms say the chronic driver shortages has been amplified by the pandemic.
A new study demonstrates switching to biodiesel could result in significant health benefits such as decreased cancer risk, fewer premature deaths and reduced asthma attacks. ....

Watch: new harvesting robot picks an apple every seven seconds

The robot’s vision system can identify more than 90% of all visible apples.
A new autonomous harvesting robot developed by Australia’s Monash University is capable of identifying, picking and dropping apples in seven seconds.
Following extensive trials in February and March, the robot was able to harvest more than 85% of all reachable apples in the canopy identified by its vision system.
Of all apples harvested, less than 6% were damaged due to stem removal.
With the robot limited to half its maximum speed, the median harvest rate was 12.6 seconds per apple, the researchers say.
In streamlined pick-and-drop scenarios, the cycle time reduced to roughly nine seconds. ....
