On that particular Thursday morning, there was a bit of buzz related to a strain of the novel Coronavirus that had reached the U.S. shores in the Northwest. The days that immediately followed began to show us all the enormity of the situation we were facing, and then on March 13, the world stopped. I seriously considered rescinding my acceptance, but a series of phone conversations with DSO board members and Music Director David Amado changed my mind. The decision was made to provide full compensation to musicians for the canceled services. ....

Springfield Symphony Orchestra unveils streaming chamber music series Updated 5:26 AM; Facebook Share In their tireless effort to keep the music playing, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra has announced its Virtual Spring Chamber Concert Series for On Demand Streaming. The three-concert series will begin on Saturday, April 10, with successive concerts on April 24 and May 8, all at 5 p.m. The programs will remain streaming through May 21. Each of the three 45 to 50-minute concerts consists of music for strings and percussion, featuring SSO violinists Masako Yanagita, Marsha Harbison, and Beth Welty, violists Delores Thayer and Noralee Walker, cellists Boris Kogan and Joel Wolfe, and percussionists Martin Kluger, Nathan Lasell, and Robert McEwan. ....
