Supervisors approve grant program application | News, Sports, Jobs

JOHNSTOWN Submission of a $300,000 final New York state application for a new round of a Fulton County Microenterprise Grant Program was approved March 8 by the Fulton County Board of Supervisors.
Board action followed a public hearing, in which no one spoke at the County Office Building.
The application to operate the program had been recommended by the board’s Economic Development and Environment Committee. Board Chairman Jack Callery was authorized to submit the application.
The board passed a resolution authorizing a Community Development Block Grant application to the state Office of Community Renewal to operate a new Fulton County Microenterprise Grant Program. The program for very small businesses is run through the Gloversville-based Fulton County Center for Regional Growth, on behalf of the county. ....

Officials seeking $300K grant for microenterprise | News, Sports, Jobs

JOHNSTOWN Fulton County supervisors on Wednesday approved submission of a $300,000 2021 Community Development Block Grant application to the state to operate a new Microenterprise Program.
The program run through the Fulton County Center for Regional Growth assists very small businesses in Fulton County with financial awards.
The Board of Supervisors’ Economic Development and Environment Committee on Wednesday authorized submission of the grant application to the state Office of Community Renewal.
“We’ve operated such a program through the CRG since 2018,” county Planning Director Scott Henze told the committee.
County officials on Wednesday were trying to set up a public hearing on the application for the board’s next meeting on March 8. ....

St. Lawrence County Fair Housing Task Force meets Thursday via Zoom

CANTON The St. Lawrence County Fair Housing Task Force will convene via Zoom on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
The agenda items include:
• Update by Diana Dufresne and John Tenbusch regarding evictions in St. Lawrence County;
• Discussion with PJ Herne about raising income thresholds for very low/low income households to receive Real Property tax exemption; and
• Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing as required by Office of Community Renewal.

Sherman Water Project Ready To Move Ahead | News, Sports, Jobs

SHERMAN The village of Sherman will soon advertise the water system improvement project for bids having received board members’ approval at their meeting this month.
Resolution 2021-02-03.16 authorizing the clerk-treasurer to advertise the project, at the discretion of the mayor, passed unanimously.
Village Mayor Colleen Meeder said, “This is very exciting.”
Meeder told board members that Matt Zarbo, project engineer from Barton & Loguidice, said everything is ready to move ahead. She said they hope the bids can be accomplished this month.
In the fall of 2019, the village applied for grants to complete upgrades for the water system. These grants were made possible because the village was classified as a “great hardship” by the Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC). ....

City to apply for $1M grant | News, Sports, Jobs

GLOVERSVILLE The city will apply for a $1 million federal grant this year on behalf of the Gloversville Water Works to cover the cost of a planned rehabilitation project at the Jackson Summit Reservoir.
The Common Council during the Jan. 26 meeting authorized the submission of a $1 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant application through the state Office of Community Renewal for improvements to the Jackson Summit Reservoir.
The grant funds would be applied to the reconstruction of the reservoir’s 1940s era spillway chute as called for by the state Department of Environmental Conservation to meet dam safety requirements. The concrete chute is currently deteriorating beyond repair, requiring the original chute and subsurface to be completely removed and replaced. ....
