WIU Program Accepts First Student to Teach in Wisconsin Tribal Schools - Western Illinois University News

MACOMB, IL – Students at Western Illinois University will have the opportunity to gain teaching experience at Native American tribal schools starting in Fall 2021.
The College of Education and Human Services and the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach are working to give students the opportunity to complete their student teaching at three tribal schools in Wisconsin. Elementary and secondary education students at WIU may apply for this opportunity, with scholarships available to cover room and board expenses, paid for by the WIU Foundation.
The first student chosen for the program for the Fall 2021 semester is English Education graduate student Adrienne Tinsley, of South Holland, IL. ....

Cardinal graduate builds life-changing connections through study abroad

When Brianna Berry first came to UofL, she didn’t know much about studying abroad. But she had always loved traveling, so she decided to attend the study abroad fair during her first semester to learn more about the international opportunities UofL offers.  
That decision sparked an even bigger passion for travel that would take Berry beyond UofL’s campus and shape her academic career. It led her to study abroad twice (first in San Sebastián, Spain and again in Puntarenas, Costa Rica), and graduate in 2018 with two bachelor’s degrees  ....

7 WKU students awarded Fund for Education Abroad scholarships

Seven WKU students were awarded Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) scholarships for study abroad in the January 2021 application cycle. The recipients earned scholarships totaling $28,075, deferrable through summer 2022 to help students achieve their study abroad goals despite disruption to higher education and international travel. With seven recipients in this cycle the highest number in institutional history WKU had more recipients than any other college or university.
FEA makes life-changing international education experiences accessible to all by supporting minority and first-generation college students underrepresented in U.S. study abroad, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents. In this national application cycle, 92% of awarded scholars identify as students of color, and 90% are ....

UW Names Helfgott AVP for Global Engagement | News | University of Wyoming

The chair of the University of Wyoming’s Department of History and American Studies has been named UW’s associate vice provost for global engagement.
Isadora Helfgott oversees UW’s Global Engagement Office, created as part of UW’s strategic plan, which calls for expanded recruitment of international students and greater engagement of faculty and students in international education. She has held the position as an interim appointee since last summer.
“Dr. Helfgott has demonstrated excellent leadership ability and vision in leading this office on an interim basis, and we’re excited that she will continue in this role without the ‘interim’ label,” Interim Provost Anne Alexander says. ....

English Department Leads Global Learning Forum Discussion

On Monday, February 22nd, the WKU English Department presented Global Learning through Global Literature in collaboration with the Global Learning Forum hosted by WKU’s Office of Study Abroad and International Learning. Led by Dr. Ted Hovet, two current undergraduate English students and a graduate assistant shared presentations focused on comparing and contrasting western culture with the cultures found in global literature. 
Dr. Hovet explained, “The goal of this forum [was] to put literary works into conversation with one another to see how they may increase global learning and global understanding.” The hope for Dr. Hovet was that the presentations and audience’s questions would uncover “how we can more intentionally bring global learning through literature in curricular and extracurricular opportunities at WKU.” ....
