Emory reinstates student-led campus emergency medical first responders

In 2020, EEMS was suspended as a COVID-19 precaution with Dekalb American Medical Response and the Dekalb County Fire Rescue serving as first responders for the Emory community. The medical program, previously positioned under the Emory Police Department, has a 30-year legacy and has made a tremendous impact on Emory’s campus community.
EEMS is a volunteer EMS organization that responds to emergency and 911-based calls in the Emory community. In addition, it provides medical standby services for university events. Established in 1992, EEMS began as the vision of a few EMTs who wanted to provide enhanced emergency medical coverage to the Emory community. EEMS became the first licensed collegiate medical first responder service in the state of Georgia. ....

Scientists recently debunked the link between the COVID-19 vaccine to infertility. They said it is a myth and there is no evidence that this vaccine results will make women infertile.
A Glamour report said, according to OB-GYN Jessica Shepherd of the University of Illinois at Chicago, while fertility was not particularly examined in the vaccine s clinical trials, no loss of fertility has been reported among participants of the trial, or among the millions of people who have already been vaccinated, and now indications of infertility arose in animal studies.

Take time to get prepared during Severe Weather Awareness Week

Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia is Feb. 1-5, which offers an opportunity for the Emory community to review campus emergency plans for what to do in the event of disasters, according the Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response (CEPAR).
Tornadoes and severe weather can occur at any time. During the April 12-13, 2020, tornado outbreak, 21 tornados touched down across the state of Georgia, says Sam Shartar, CEPAR director of operations and senior administrator. Emory University is a Storm Ready University and has taken the necessary steps to ensure Emory’s community is ready to respond to weather emergencies.
The best plan is to learn about community resources now, before weather events strike, says Shartar. ....

The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines have arrived at hospitals in Maryland and more are expected later this week. Now those hospitals are reckoning with how to dole out the limited numbers of vaccines to tens of thousands of frontline healthcare workers.
Daisy Solares, a respiratory therapist at the University of Maryland Medical Center, was among the first Maryland residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
“It felt fine. Good. No pain,” she told reporters immediately after receiving the injection. “Honestly I barely even felt it.”
