RACINE â The case against a man charged with murder fell apart during a five-day trial. Credibility issues with the chief witness were brought to the surface, and the Racine Police Department was accused of performing a lackluster investigation.
Alexander Lease was the state s chief witness in the trial against Joshua Morris, who was charged but found not guilty of murdering Lavelle Monroe. Lease was found to have repeatedly lied to law enforcement but was still relied upon by law enforcement in the investigation.

Man accused of sex crimes pleads not guilty to 84 charges

RACINE, Wis. (AP) A Wisconsin man accused of sex crimes ranging from assault to possession of child pornography pleaded not guilty Thursday to 84 charges.
Shane Stanger, 46, of Burlington, faces 10 counts of second-degree sexual assault with an unconscious person, 66 counts relating to images or videos that rise to the level of a sex crime, six counts of child pornography and two counts of intimidating a witness.
Investigators said Stanger videotaped his attacks against his victims, including five who were under 18 years old. One of the alleged victims was a 10-year-old girl.
He’s also accused of recording women and children showering or naked. Some of those videos were taken from inside an employee bathroom at a restaurant where he once worked, prosecutors said. ....

Stanger pleads not guilty to 84 charges; allegedly sent letter to accuser while behind bars

Stanger, while behind bars, also allegedly sent a letter to the woman heâs accused of assaulting.
Court Commissioner Alice Rudebusch presided over the preliminary hearing on Thursday and determined there was sufficient evidence to bind the case over to the Racine County Circuit Court. Following the preliminary hearing, there was an arraignment, during which Stanger pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The evidence
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Tanck-Adams represented the state in Thursdayâs proceedings.
Investigator Andrew Sparks of the Racine County Sheriffâs Office was the only witness to testify at the hearing.
He told the court the investigation began when a woman in Waterford reported she discovered videos on Stangerâs computer that show him engaging in sexual contact with her while she was passed out. The victim reportedly told Sparks she was not aware nor awake during the assault. ....
