Chidambaram who was seen to be defending the Central Bureau of Investigation’s exoneration of  Jagdish Tytler, indicted by fact-finding commissions as a key facilitator of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. Singh was arrested but then let off. Subsequently, he fought and won an election and became an MLA. However, his day in the sun still remained that one act of defiance. ....

Sabah STAR lodges five police reports against Facebook user who uploaded pro-Israel poster


KOTA KINABALU: At least five police reports have been lodged by Sabah STAR against a Facebook user who uploaded an image claiming its leader Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan supported Israel s acts against the Palestinians.
The image was uploaded under the name Danny Lukas Jr, believed to be a fake identity, to several accounts at 6.15pm on Saturday (May 15).
Sabah STAR Youth chief Rizal Johari (pic) said the party would also lodge a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“The individual is not a STAR member and has often made posts on social media, particularly Facebook, allegedly representing STAR in an attempt to confuse the public, he said in a statement on Sunday (May 16). ....

La. Supreme Court sides with former legislative auditor on defamation claim
The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled Thursday statements attributed to former Louisiana Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera were constitutionally protected.
Jacob Johnson, who was executive director of the quasi-public Health Education Authority of Louisiana, sued Purpera individually and in his official capacity, arguing statements in two audit reports and accompanying summaries that were critical of HEAL under his leadership were defamatory. The LLA’s reports accused the agency of questionable spending, failing to follow state regulations and not effectively using its bonding capacity.
The court’s majority said the statements at issue were opinions “that do not carry a provably false factual connotation” and are “entitled to full constitutional protection.” ....
