More than 1,800 additional cases of COVID-19 in schools across Indiana were reported Monday by the Indiana State Department of Health.
Of the additional cases reported Monday, 1,289 occurred in students, 242 occurred in teachers and 338 occurred in school staff members. Most of the newly-reported cases occurred in the last week, although some date back to earlier this month.
Schools in Central Indiana have a mix of in-person and virtual learning options. Schools are not asked to report cases among students, teachers or staff members that have no contact with the school community and thus don t present a risk for exposure, like those that occur in virtual students. ....

Dozens of Indiana school districts are suing parents over unpaid textbook fees, despite receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars per classroom.
The
South Bend Tribunereported the School City of Mishawaka has filed lawsuits against hundreds of parents:
When Hannah Watts received a reminder notice in the mail in January for the $701.56 she still owed for her childrens’ textbook fees from last year, she decided to use her tax refund to pay it off in the spring.
But two months later, the coronavirus pandemic shut down Indiana. Watts is a dental assistant, and her hours at work were slashed. She had no choice but to use the refund to cover household expenses. ....
