Muskoka paramedic awarded Exemplary Service Medal by Governor General

One of the highest honours a paramedic can receive has been awarded to one from Muskoka.
Paramedic Geordie Heath has been awarded the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal. The medal is handed out by the Governor General. According to the Governor General’s website it, “recognizes professionals in the provision of pre-hospital emergency medical services to the public, who have performed their duties in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.”
“I was surprised to receive it,” Heath tells the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom.
He has spent over two decades with Muskoka Paramedics Services, which is one of the requirements to receive the medal. Deputy Chief of Paramedic Services and Emergency Planning for the District of Muskoka Stuart McKinnon says Heath is always first in line to help support his peers, educate community members on what paramedics do and support youth at events. ....

COVID-19 vaccine: High-risk health care workers in Hamilton can get their 2nd dose sooner

Health care workers who are considered “high-risk” in Hamilton are now eligible to get their second dose of the COVID-19 sooner than 16-weeks after their first.
It was announced Tuesday (May 18) that eligible individuals will receive a notification via text message or email with their new appointment date. Those who do not receive a notification by the end-of-day Thursday (May 20) can call the Hamilton Public Health Services COVID-19 Hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7.

Highest-risk health care workers now eligible for earlier second dose of vaccine

Waterloo Region is now accepting requests for an earlier appointment for a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from highest-risk health care workers. These highest-risk health care workers were identified by the Province for a shortened interval between first and second doses of the vaccine.
“The Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force is committed to balancing the priority of getting first doses in arms as quickly as possible with the priority to get second doses to those identified by the Province as being at highest risk,” said Shirley Hilton, Deputy Chief for Waterloo Region Police Service and Lead of the Waterloo Region Vaccine Distribution Task Force. “With more vaccine on the way, we’ll be increasing our capacity at our vaccination clinics in the weeks ahead.” ....
