The medical officers of health for both Toronto and Peel have officially joined forces to request an extension of all current lockdown orders in their respective regions from the provincial government.
Toronto Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa announced the news in a sobering address about the city s COVID-19 situation on Wednesday afternoon, noting:  I have never been as worried about the future as I am today. ....

COVID-19 Ontario: Fewer than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases reported on anniversary of first infection

Ontario is reporting fewer than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases Monday as the province marks the anniversary of detecting its first infection.
The 1,958 cases mark a decrease from Sunday’s report when 2,417 were logged.
With 35,968 tests for the disease processed in the last 24-hour period, Ontario s COVID-19 positivity rate stands at 5.5 per cent. 
Monday’s report brings the province’s lab-confirmed case total to 256,960, including 5,846 deaths and 227,494 recoveries.
Forty-three of those deaths occurred in the previous day, 27 of which were residents of a long-term care home.
The province’s seven-day average for number of cases reported is 2,370, down significantly from the 3,034 reported the same time last week. There are currently 23,620 active cases of the novel coronavirus in Ontario.   ....

COVID-19 Ontario: Province reports fewer than 2,700 cases of COVID-19 as positivity rate continues to drop

Ontario health officials are reporting less than 2,700 new cases of COVID-19 as the province’s positivity rate dropped for the third day in a row.
The province logged 2,662 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday, as well as 87 more deaths related to the disease.
With more than 71,000 COVID-19 tests conducted, Ontario Ministry of Health said the positivity rate for the province dropped to 3.3 per cent on Friday, the lowest seen since Dec. 12 when it stood at 3.2 per cent.
The province’s seven-day average for the number of infections recorded is now 2,702, down from 3,273 one week ago.
Of the 87 COVID-19-related deaths reported on Friday, health officials said that 43 were residents in long-term care homes. ....
