An article in the Sunday Inquirer said that federal prosecutors are discussing not prosecuting all who participated in the fatal U.S. Capitol insurrectional assault on Jan. 6. The reason: Fears of “overloading” the courts.
Balderdash. During the 1967 MOBE march and demonstration by several hundred thousand antiwar activists on the Pentagon to protest the Vietnam War, the feds didn’t hesitate about arresting, charging, and then busing me and 700 other activists to federal prison in Occoquan, Va. There we were held and arraigned over the next few days with most, like me, released with minor penalties like my five-day suspended misdemeanor trespass sentence and $25 fine. ....

A service dog who went missing after a car crash on Interstate 95 in Virginia almost two weeks ago has been found safe.
Andrew Breidenbach, a Richmond-area man with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), said his dog Kilo freaked out and fled when he crashed on Dec. 13 and totaled his car.
It happened in Occoquan near the Prince William Parkway, headed northbound on I-95. Occoquan is about 25 miles south of Washington D.C.
Ann-Marie Thacker Johnson, who helped organize a massive search for Kilo, told Inside Nova, a local news website that covers Northern Virginia, that volunteers came from as far as Maryland to help out. The search lasted for nearly two weeks, with volunteers setting up motion-activated cameras and keeping an eye out in the area, as well as multiple tips being called in to police. ....

Doctors often tell us, cut back on your salt. And just like too much dietary salt is bad for blood pressure, too much salt in our nation s streams, lakes, and reservoirs threatens ecosystem health and the security of our nation s drinking water and food supplies. 
Salt levels are rising fast in freshwaters across the United States, said Stanley Grant, professor of civil and environmental engineering in the Virginia Tech College of Engineering and the principal investigator of a recent multimillion dollar grant from the National Science Foundation aimed at addressing the issue. It s a slow-moving train wreck. If we don t figure out how to reverse this trend soon, it could become one of our nation s top environmental challenges going forward.   ....

Innovation Park plan OK'd for development near GMU | Headlines


The Prince William Board of County Supervisors adopted a small-area plan for the Innovation Park area Tuesday night. 
The plan covers 1,760 acres around George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus just outside Manassas and creates three overlay districts – an employment center, university center and technology center – using eight different land-use designations. The plan was adopted unanimously.
Presenting the plan to the board Tuesday night, Deputy Planning Director Steve Donohoe focused largely on the university center. The county hopes to turn the area surrounding GMU’s campus into a pedestrian-oriented mixed-use town center with student housing and office space, as well as a shuttle to and from the Broad Run Virginia Railway Express station. The plan also proposes a pedestrian bridge crossing Prince William Parkway on University Boulevard and an elementary school in the town center. ....
