Editorial: Rail deal will go a long way for Virginia

In December 2019, Gov. Ralph Northam was bullish about the need to improve Virginiaâs rail system. The commonwealth introduced a $3.7 billion deal with CSX to expand service, improve efficiency and add economic opportunities in the years ahead.
âWe have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make our rail system work better for everyone, both in Virginia and along the entire East Coast,â Northam said in a statement at the time. âThis agreement will change the future of transportation in Virginia, improving our ability to move people and goods across the state, and opening up potential rail service in underserved parts of the commonwealth.â ....

Tim Cox is hoping Prince William County voters will meet him in the middle.
The 34-year-old conservative is running for the 51st District House of Delegates seat. As it sits today, the district includes a large swath of the county, from the county’s east side that favors Democrats, to the west side which largely votes Republican.
All political districts in the state will be redrawn soon as part of the decennial redistricting process. Cox hopes his campaign is enough to draw out both moderates and Republicans who don’t feel represented in Richmond. ....

Introduction to Pohick: “The Mother Church of Northern Virginia,” Pohick was the first permanent church in the colony established north of the Occoquan River, around 1724. Originally called “the Occoquan Church,” it was soon referred to as “Pohick Church” because of its proximity to Pohick Creek. (“Pohick” is a Native American word for “hickory tree.”) Pohick is the home church of several American patriots, including the Washington, Mason and Fairfax families. George Washington’s father Augustine was an early vestry member, and George followed in his footsteps. Washington was formed at Pohick and as an adult, helped design and build our current church completed in 1774. ....
