Taking its title from Ya-Wen Ho s translation of a Li Po poem, A Clear Dawn holds
all the promise and possibility of its namesake, suggesting a clear way forward for new voices to be heard and the dawning of greater representation, publication and recognition of a diversity of New Zealand writers.
Naturally the diversity of writers leads to a diversity of content. This is an anthology of creative non-fiction, fiction and poetry with excerpts from novels, previously unpublished works, and published pieces from the last decade. Join artist Billy Apple and Adam Art Gallery Director Christina Barton for a performance of the recorded sound piece,
Glass Transformation, 1972. This is the work’s first presentation in Wellington and is programmed to coincide with Kate Newby’s major exhibition
YES TOMORROW, which also features works made with broken glass collected for the occasion.
The sound recording is the only tangible remainder of a three-part project conceived and executed by conceptual artist Billy Apple and experimental composer Annea Lockwood over three years between November 1970 and April 1972.
Glass Transformation was first presented on the evening of 7 April 1972 at 98 Greene Street Loft, an alternative space run by Holly and Horace Solomon in New York City. It features the recorded sounds of broken glass being swept, crushed and sieved and is presented in total darkness so that aural sensations are intensified. The piece will be introduc ....
