Ford returning to Oxford PD as interim chief


She will take over for the current chief, Alvin Coley, who is retiring on Aug. 1.
City officials said Ford, who had worked for the department for more than two decades, will serve as chief while they search for a permanent hire.
Coley has been Oxford’s police chief since 2013, and is retiring after nearly 35 years in law enforcement with the N.C. State Highway Patrol and the Sharpsburg Police Department near Rocky Mount.
Ford has been a detective for the Oxford police in addition to being the department’s captain.
She completed Basic Law Enforcement Training at Vance-Granville Community College and started out as a Creedmoor Police Department patrol officer before joining the Oxford police in 1997. ....
