WINONA, Minn. We don t know a lot, and that s how Lucille G. Stiever and Robert J. Stiever wanted it.
What we do know is this: St. Mary s University in Winona received a gift of $5 million from the estate of Lucille Stiever. It represents the largest gift in the history of SMU, according to a statement from the university.
The money will go to fund scholarships for students based on need, according to the university.
The Stiever estate directed that the funds be used to establish an endowment to fund student scholarships for the undergraduate college in Winona, said Benjamin Murray, executive vice president and CFO at SMU. John Plebani served from August 1942 until December 1945 and worked as a mechanic. He was stationed in the Pacific in New Guinea. He has lived in Scotch Plains for more than 50 years, and his 100th birthday is Wednesday, May 26, 2021!

Gregory Ruffa enlisted in WWII when he was just 18 years old once he realized he had enough credits after three years of high school to graduate and take the air force exam. After  Mr. Ruffa decided he wanted to fly, he had to pass various difficult tests in order to gain the ability to operate a plane and become part of the Air Force. “I would stay up all night studying to keep up and pass the exams,” Mr. Ruffa said. ....

Sterling S. “Dutch” Wehner, long-time resident of Houston and Canyon Lake, passed away April 15, 2021, at the residence in Sugar Land where he lived with his wife Bette.
Sterling was born June 9, 1923 in El Paso, to William Henry Wehner and Abbie Ostheimer Wehner. Sterling graduated from El Paso High School and attended Columbia University in NYC before entering World War II. He enlisted in the US Army Air Force, was trained in advanced meteorology, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater until after the war ended.
Upon his return to the US, Sterling married Elizabeth Benson of Austin, a union that lasted 29 years. He completed his studies at the University of Texas, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering, held the first of his five sons, and acquired a lifelong addiction to Longhorn football. ....
