FOUR SPACES: Poems from Asia, Africa and Europe

CAIRO: The Silk Road Literature Series has recently published a poetic anthology written by four poets: Eva Petropoylou Lianoy (Greece), Mbizo Chirasha (Zimbabwe), Santosh Kumar Pokharel (Nepal) and Ashraf Aboul-Yazid (Egypt).
Entitled “Four Spaces”, the anthology joins series in its digital form, following the printed version in paper.

In this issue, Greek poet and writer Eva Petropoylou Lianoy continues her writings on love and peace.
In her poem “Destiny”, she writes: “I forget my life before poetry, Leaving between the verses, Music gave me a message, Writing gave me a purpose.”
Eva was born in Xylokastro where she completed her basics studies. She loved journalism and attended journalism lessons at the ANT1 School. In 1994, she worked as a journalist in French newspaper “Le Libre Journal”, but her love for Greece won and returned to her sunny home. ....

AJA statement on the current political crisis in Myanmar

SEOUL: Asia Journalist Association(AJA) express their deep concerns regarding the freedom of journalism and media in Myanmar after cutting most access to TV channels, phone lines and internet services.
These actions came after the announcement of state of emergency for up to one year by Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Min Aung Hlaing.
State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and other National League for Democracy (NLD) officials across the country were also detained.
These steps are a threat to democratic life in the nation that is facing many problems.
AJA will always stand strong to support the freedom of journalism, as it is the only way to support democracy. ....

Remembering the times when the sun was adored as god

PRISTINA, KOSOVO: Arabic poetry was transmitted orally until the fifth century. Poems were later written down.
These days, I have been removing the dust from the deepest recesses of my sub-consciousness (talking about some 30 years of my studies), looking for parallels of the old poetry with the contemporary Arab poetry.
The parallels allow me to recall Imru Al Qays, Antarah Ibn Sheddad, Al Nabigah al Dhubiyani, Tarafah, Dhuheir Abi Sulma who were some of the best poets whose long Arabic poems were hung on or in the Kaaba in Makkah, earning the prestigious name of Al Muallaqat – The Suspended Odes or The Hanging Poems. ....
