UGA to enforce downtown lot parking after business hours

University of Georgia Transportation and Parking Services will begin managing UGA parking lots downtown after regular business hours starting April 1, according to an ArchNews email sent on March 11.
After-hours enforcement will occur Monday-Friday from 6 p.m.-midnight and Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-midnight. This excludes UGA home football game days.
The affected lots include N02, N03, N04, W01, W16, Herty Drive areas and One Press Place.
A valid UGA parking permit is still required to park in these parking lots prior to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, according to the email. UGA students, faculty and staff can park in these lots after-hours for free as long as their vehicle information has been added to the Parking Account Management System, according to the email. ....

Former KU faculty member loses battle to Covid-19

Dr Shakeel-ur-Rehman Farooqui, associate professor in the Department of Genetics at the University of Karachi, passed away on Monday morning at the age of 61.
His colleagues said he had been admitted in a private hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 a few weeks ago, but due to other complications and the severity of his illness, he could not survive.
His funeral prayers were offered after the evening prayers at Jamia Masjid Ibrahim, which is located on campus, following which he was buried at the university’s cemetery.
The funeral was attended by KU acting vice chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) President Prof Dr Shah Ali Al-Qadr, Jamaat-e-Islami senior leader Dr Meraj Al-Huda Siddiqui, Arts Council President Ahmad Shah, heads of the university’s faculties, and a large number of students and administrative staff members. ....

Bridging the gap: On deficit in OBC, SC positions vacant at IIMs

A severe deficit in the number of OBC, SC, ST candidates recruited as faculty in Central institutes of higher education has been revealed by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal in Parliament, drawing attention once again to the pallid state of reservation in some of India’s elite institutions. Some of the striking data show 62% unfilled vacancies for SC in the IIMs and 90% for OBC in the IISc, while vacant positions are on average about 38% to 52%, taking Central Universities, IISERs, IIT (non-faculty), IGNOU, and Sanskrit Central Universities into account. The data confirm that the trend seen earlier in the IIT system extends to many more institutions, highlighting a serious mismatch between the government’s equity-building goals and actual recruitment outcomes. Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) gave ten scholarships to Egyptian university students and faculty members to learn Urdu language at AIOU on the annual basis.
To strengthen this mutual collaboration further, Egyptian government has made a principled decision to establish the Institute of Arabic language at AIOU.
In this regard, Egyptian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Tarek Dahrough, visited AIOU. He was accompanied by Amer us Syed Nasir ud Din Syed and Second Secretary of Egyptian embassy, Ahmad Rida.
