MOULTRIE, Ga. — As part of its mission to increase physicians in underserved communities, PCOM South Georgia is set to host its annual Science and Math Summer Academy this June.
Throughout the two-week program, PCOM South Georgia students mentor students from Colquitt County High School and Cairo High School. Their aim is to make one thing clear: medical school is achievable.
“Our goal is for the students to see that their dreams are achievable,” said SMSA faculty lead, Stacie Fairley, PhD, assistant professor of microbiology and immunology. “Our team is passionate about showing them that no matter their socioeconomic background, they can join and be successful in the healthcare field if they have the educational prowess and perseverance. ....

1,400 CCSD employees receive first dose of COVID-19 vaccine


“I feel emotional because there’s a lot of people who wish to have it [the vaccine],” said Clarke Central cafeteria staff member, Maria Rojas Barrera.
Rojas Barrera is one of approximately 1,400 Clarke County School District employees who received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine Wednesday. Employees are expected to receive the second dose on March 31.
On March 8, Gov. Brian Kemp expanded the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility list to include educators and school employees across the state.
Between two sites, Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals high schools, teachers, staff and other faculty were invited to sign up for appointments voluntarily through a mass email sent to employees throughout the school district. CCSD administrators and staff at the district office made sure that every employee was aware of this opportunity, said Jillian Whatley, executive director of student support services. ....

President Johnson meets with staff to discuss campus return, mental health and anti-racism
University Staff Advisory Committee hosts first Conversation with the President
Ohio State University President Kristina M. Johnson praised the critical role of staff to creating a great land-grant university in the 21st century. The university’s 16th president discussed what a return to campus will look like in the near future, her vision for Ohio State as an anti-racist community and her favorite late night TV shows during an hour-long conversation with the University Staff Advisory Committee this week.
The committee hosts the president for a question-and-answer session each year. This was Johnson’s first appearance since becoming president. ....
