With unfair police treatment, tragedy not limited to incident itself

New research using a nationally representative sample of more than 12,000 participants shows the collateral consequences victims are likely to confront following unfair treatment by police.
Michael Brown, George Floyd and Tamir Rice are just some of those who have died recently at the hands of police.
Their names are now tragically familiar, but thousands of other people who are unjustly stopped, searched or questioned by law enforcement will likely experience a range of detrimental outcomes associated with unfair police treatment, including depression, suicidal thoughts, drug use and a loss of self-efficacy, according to Christopher Dennison, assistant professor of sociology, College of Arts and Sciences. ....

President Kristina M. Johnson sent the following email to The Ohio State University community today (March 9).
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
At Ohio State and around the world, we have been seeing hopeful signs of renewal and reasons for optimism. There’s a new vaccine – the single dose version created by Johnson & Johnson and approved by the FDA for emergency use. We had an early taste of spring weather that brought us out onto the Oval and other favorite campus spots. There are even plans to allow for limited fans – with public health restrictions in place – at the Big Ten basketball championships.  ....
