Campbellsville University named an affiliate of 2021 Kentucky Academy of Science

Campbellsville University has been named an enhanced affiliate of the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS).
One of the greatest benefits of the designation is that any CU faculty or student can join the membership at no cost and qualify to attend and participate in the KAS Annual Meeting, Dr. Richie Kessler, associate professor of biology/environmental studies program coordinator, said.
KAS is a membership-based scientific society with a goal to aid scientific discovery and understanding in Kentucky.
Maintaining the Enhanced Affiliate designation with the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) is a great benefit to all CU faculty and students who work in the sciences including the academic disciplines of psychology, physics, math, biology and environmental science, Kessler said. ....

In celebration of Black History Month, numerous news outlets as well as the University Libraries have released lists of critically acclaimed books, films and television shows that celebrate the numerous contributions and achievements of African Americans.
However, one does not need to look outside of UB to find literature on African American culture and heritage.
UB is home to researchers whose scholarship explores the impact that Black people have had across the world, as well as examines their struggles for equality. This includes several faculty members in the Department of Africana and American Studies, which celebrated its 50th anniversary of African American studies in 2019. ....

UB PhD students lead #BlackInSciComm, #BlackInNano movements - UB Now: News and views for UB faculty and staff

In 2020, powerful online movements emerged to celebrate and elevate the voices of Black scientists.
Called the #BlackInX movements, these efforts arose during months of protests against police killings and police brutality. They were a reaction to events, including the Central Park bird-watching incident an episode that highlighted the dangers and harassment that Black people often endure while living their daily lives.
Among the leaders of #BlackInX movements are two UB doctoral students: Olivia Geneus, a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry who co-founded Black In Nanotechnology, and Raven Baxter, a PhD candidate in the Department of Learning and Instruction who founded Black In Science Communication. (Baxter, a microbiologist and prolific science communicator known as Raven the Science Maven, also created Black In STEM Education, but has handed off coordination of that initiative to other organizers.) ....
