Missouri House wants to crack down on porch pirates
Package thefts are on the rise and the Missouri House of Representatives wants to do something about the problem. The House has passed a bill that would make the first offense of stealing mail a misdemeanor and any following offense would be a felony. House Bill 825 includes letters, postcards, packages, bags, or other sealed articles.

That number rose to 43% in 2020. So, we are looking to be a little pro-active on this,” Schwadron says on the House floor. “It’s just ensuring clarity and consistency in the application of the law, so that way law enforcement entities can pro ....

In an unremitting bid to clamp down on “voter fraud,” Republican House lawmakers want to prevent any individual or organization from distributing absentee ballot request forms to eligible voters.
HB 1362  proposed by Rep. Hardy Billington, R-Poplar Bluff would add a line to existing election law stating that “No individual or organization shall distribute unsolicited applications for absentee ballots by mail, electronic mail or any other means.”

She said she also believes the forms shouldn’t be automatically sent out by a local election authority. ....

School districts could issue teaching permits to people who aren t state certified to teach under a proposal debated by lawmakers this week.
Rep. Bishop Davidson, R-Republic, said the permits could account for 5% of the teaching faculty within a single district and would address a number of Missouri’s K-12 needs.
“One is the immediate teacher recruitment issue of getting teachers and more teachers into our schools,” Davidson said of House Bill 439.
“Two, I think more broadly, ensuring that we can bring in teachers and have an adaptive teaching profession to what is an evolving economic outlook.
