Triathletes and town hall leaders herald return of Bolton Ironman

THE return of Ironman to Bolton will help lift the town out of the lockdown doldrums, says a town hall boss and triathletes. The 112-mile challenge, taking in Queen s Park, Pennington Flash and the West Pennines, will kick off on July 4 and is already a sell-out. For town hall chiefs the gathering, also featuring Iron Kids and a 10km race, will be an ideal post-Covid showcase for the borough. And elite athletes are looking forward to a weekend where Bolton welcomes the cream of the Ironman competition to the north-west. Cllr Martyn Cox, regeneration cabinet member, said: The Bolton Ironman is our premier event and is enormously popular.

Police warning to stay away from Rivington due to weather

Police are warning residents to stay away from the Rivington area due to poor conditions. Chorley Police are urging people to stay away from Rivington for the rest of the weekend after snow and ice made for dangerous driving and walking conditions. A number of roads could potentially be closed by police after a number of cars got stuck or slid off due to icy conditions. Sheep House Lane, which leads to Belmont, was a particular problem for vehicles, with Chorley Police currently working with Lancashire County Council to look to close Sheep House Lane, Rivington Road (outside the Black Dog pub), Knowsley Lane, Higher House Lane and Dean Head Lane.
