Over the course of the last month, New Jersey’s high schools have celebrated the graduations of the Class of 2021 with plenty of wise words and proclamations. No less wise have been those from students themselves in the commencement speeches by class presidents, valedictorians, and others, many of them reflecting on what has been remarkable school year in their communities, schools and families. The following are excerpts from a few of those students’ speeches, submitted to NJ Spotlight News by their school principals.

Everything about our high school experience changed on March 16, 2020. At that time, we thought we would be home on a minibreak for just two weeks and soon things would be back to normal. Little did we know that the world around us would come to a stop and still has yet to totally resume. ....

Story of Mother’s Day movie to premiere in Henderson May 8

With the Academy Awards behind us, Henderson can now look forward to its own red-carpet event: the world premiere of “The Story of Mother’s Day,” a feature movie filmed in Henderson this spring and starring mostly Henderson actors.
The 90-minute film will be screened three times at Showplace Cinema Henderson at 4 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, which is the day before Mother’s Day. Tickets can be ordered online, and approximately half the tickets have already been purchased.
The eight lead student actors either attend or have attended school in Henderson County, including several current County High Students. They include Piper Brewer, Sarah Tuma, Brayden Lacer, Ellie Parker, Mabrey Rice, Lincoln Brantley, Matthew Utley and Justin Ira Jackson. ....
