Dunfermline road is set for major improvements

IT’S hoped that major improvement work at Golfdrum Street will happen soon following its new status as a Housing Regeneration Area. Fed-up residents have been working with Fife Council to upgrade blocks of flats on the road after setting up a Tenants and Residents Association (TRA). However, as some of the flats are occupied by private tenants, housing officials are now working on coming to an agreement regarding cost before progress can be made. Dunfermline Central councillor Garry Haldane said: “This street has been ignored for some time now which led to the residents forming a Tenants and Residents Association to bring the many issues to Fife Council’s attention and to focus on upgrading and maintaining the blocks of flats.

Dunfermline man hits out at shocking service from Royal Mail

Another West Fifer has hit out at the “shocking” service they’ve experienced from Royal Mail after waiting for post for days on end. Since December, Gary McCrudden, from Izatt Avenue, has been receiving a bulk drop of mail through his letterbox every few weeks. It’s not the first time the Press has been contacted by frustrated residents with many readers complaining that they’re not getting post for days at a time over a period of several months. Gary said: “My postal service has been shocking and very sporadic since my regular postie (Garry Haldane), who did the round for many many years, moved to a different round some months ago.

Rosyth postie appeals to businesses to let him spend a penny

Postie Ryan McAughey is urging local businesses to allow him and his colleagues to use their toilet facilities. A DESPERATE postie has appealed for West Fife businesses to let him spend a penny as he tries to complete his daily round. Ryan McAughey said the new lockdown means eateries which they have used in the past are closed while other workplaces are reluctant to let him use their facilities because of infection risk. This, he says, means he faces the possibility of attempting to do his deliveries – last week he averaged 15 miles a day on his Rosyth beat – without a trip to the loo.

Dunfermline: Children s playpark set on fire at Pittencrieff Park

THE time has come to instal CCTV cameras in the Glen in Dunfermline and stop it from repeated vandalism. That s the view of Harry Dunn, chair of the Friends of Pittencrieff Park, who has called for meaningful action to be taken after another fire at one of the playparks. It s the latest in a depressingly long line of incidents of vandalism in the Glen where, year after year, windows are smashed, benches wrecked and children s play equipment damaged. Mr Dunn said: Youngsters must be bored out of their skulls just now and I can understand their frustration but this is rampant vandalism.

West Fife pupils stress as technical issues disrupt learning

CALLS have been made for alternative online learning platforms after technical problems disrupted lessons for thousands of pupils last week. Dunfermline councillor James Calder was contacted by constituents who he said were filled with stress and anxiety as they couldn t get on with important school work when they logged on for the first day of home-based learning during the current lockdown. The Fife Liberal Dem said there needed to be alternatives to the current communication tool Microsoft Teams if there were going to be issues. Fife Council needs to take the time to look at other options so if there are problems there is back-up, Cllr Calder said.
