After guillotining the chairwoman of the Conservation Commission for “bad customer service,” the majority of Hadley Select Board might want to get ahead on the rest their work and consider these equally valid reasons to reduce the size of the remaining town committees and departments.
Town accountant, his number’s up. Animal Control is running wild. The Building Department is falling into disrepair. Cemetery Committee is stoned. It’s a grave situation and it’s not like people are dying to get on it. Council on Aging isn’t getting any younger. The Department of Public Works needs to be privatized. Reform of the emergency department can wait, but reform of the Fire Department is a burning issue. ....

Hadley mulls CPA funds for historic cemeteries, rental aid and preserving farmland

HADLEY Enhancing historic cemeteries, providing emergency rental assistance for residents and preserving farmland are among projects that could be paid for through Community Preservation Act money this year.
The CPA Committee recently recommended $292,000 in projects for annual Town Meeting to consider in May, with the bulk of the money going toward cemetery work and the rental assistance program. Those projects were originally brought to a Special Town Meeting last fall, but that session ended before the articles were taken up.
The CPA account is built from a 3% surcharge on property tax bills that is matched by a contribution from the state. ....

I can’t believe this is my last satire of the Trump presidency. Time sure flies by when you’re great again. Soon I’ll be making fun of a new president as we enter the post-post-reality period of American politics. Good for democracy but bad for satire.
